From 23 to 27 August the European Championships were jumped in Gotenburg, Sweden. Joao Chuva started for Portugal on the 12-yr-old KWPN stallion Antonio (Vancouver) bred by Stephan Oude Nijeweme from SON-horses in Rietmolen. Grandam Askina (Farn) was bred in our stables out of the Ekini line. Out of Antonio’s dam Raskina (Iroko) Stephan Oude Nijeweme also bred Dento (Cardento) on which Bernardo Ladeira started in this year’s EC for Young Riders in Samorin, as well as Gaja (Guidam) on which Christian Ahlmann twice started in the WC for Young Horses.
Last Friday the Irish showjumping team caused sensation. With three riders the Irish won the European gold in Gotenburg, before hosting country Sweden (silver) and Switzerland (bronze). Among the three combinations that won the team gold for Ireland was Denis Lynch on All Star (Argentinus), the Hanoverian stallion bred by Horst Zöllmer out of the Fairness Z line. In the individual ranking the 14-yr-old grandson of former EC mare Rinnetou Z finished in tenth place.
Last Saturday the stallion Heineken VK VDL received his breeding licence from the KWPN on the last day of the performance test in Ermelo. This 5-yr-old son of Zirocco Blue was bred by his owner Mark van Kleef out of Regina Adelheid Z (Rebel II Z) which is also known for having produced the stallion Regino Adelheid (Animo). Heineken VK VDL, co-owned by VDL Stud, had been selected in August last year for the performance test after having acted impressively in the KWPN Championship for 4-yr-olds under Bart Bles.
Today our mare Freule celebrates her 30th birthday. She excelled as a showjumping horse with top talent and collected a series of victories at national level. In breeding she is our best broodmare by far. Daughter Kyra Adelheid won the Grand Prix of Rastede, son Lord Adelheid was three times placed in the Eindhoven Derby, daughter Quasy Adelheid Z won the 1.30m finals at CSI Twente, son Quartz Adelheid Z won the championship for 5-yr-old showjumping horses in Fontainebleau and Freule’s most successful son Quartz II Adelheid Z was placed three times in the finals of the WC in Lanaken and later won the Kiel Championship, the Dortmund Championship and GPs in Herford, Rulle and Gera. Freule, thank you for all the wonderful moments you have given us over the past thirty years!
This year CSI Twente was successful for the Brabant rider Danny Willems and Quasy Adelheid Z. On the grounds of the Maathuis family in Geesteren this full sister of Quartz I and II Adelheid Z claimed the victory in the 1.30m finals (CSI 2*) on Sunday morning. With her time of 30.45 the 9-yr-old mare left thirteen combinations that had gone clear behind her in the two phase class. In breeding Quasy Adelheid Z has produced five offspring by Untouched resp. Dallas VDL in the stables of Benno van Gilst resp. Rien Jakobsen.
