Quartz Adelheid Z is the full brother of the international show jumping stallion Quartz II Adelheid Z. Quartz was licensed by Studbook Zangersheide as a 4-yr-old. One year later he won the championship for 5-yr-old show jumping horses in Fontainebleau under Gregory Wathelet, as the first foreign horse to do so. Then he was licensed by the Selle Français and that same year he reached the finals of the WC in Lanaken. Between his 5th and 6th year of age Quartz lost his left eye, due to an accident in the horse walker. Nevertheless he finished in fifth place in Fontainebleau as a 6-yr-old and reached the finals of the WC in Lanaken. As an 8-yr-old Quartz was active in the international showjumping sport for one season under Michael Whitaker and James Billington.
